Visiting Professor of Indonesian Literature, FIB Undip: “Women in Indonesian and Vietnamese Culture”

The Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University (FIB Undip) is once again presenting an international academic event through the 2025 Visiting Professor program. On this occasion, the theme is highly relevant to cross-cultural and gender studies, namely “Women in Indonesian and Vietnamese Culture.”

This activity aims to broaden the horizons of students and academics regarding the position, representation, and role of women in the social, cultural, and literary contexts of two Southeast Asian countries, namely Indonesia and Vietnam.

The main speaker for this event is Dr. Van Kim Hoang Ha from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

She is an academic who actively researches women’s issues, modern literature, and cultural dynamics in the Southeast Asian region. Dr. Van Kim Hoang Ha’s cross-national perspectives are expected to enrich participants’ perspectives on women’s studies and culture in Asia.

The event was also moderated by Siti Komariya, S.S., M.A., a lecturer at the Indonesian Literature Study Program, FIB Undip, who is known for her active research in the fields of literature and culture as well as gender issues in the Indonesian social context.

Bridging Cross-Country Literary and Cultural Studies

The theme “Women in Indonesian and Vietnamese Culture” provides an important space for dialogue to examine how the social construction and representation of women in the two cultures share similarities and differences.

In addition to scientific presentations from the speakers, this activity also provides a space for interactive discussion so that participants can share their views and experiences on women’s issues in society.

Encouraging Regional Academic Collaboration

The Visiting Professor Program is part of the Indonesian Literature Study Program at FIB Undip’s efforts to strengthen academic cooperation at the Southeast Asian regional level.

In addition to introducing students to international perspectives, this activity is also expected to open up opportunities for research collaboration between Diponegoro University and Viet Nam National University in the future.

Through activities such as this, FIB Undip continues to demonstrate its commitment to building global networks, broadening students’ horizons, and advancing literary and cultural studies with an interdisciplinary approach.

With a spirit of collaboration and openness, this event is expected to be an important moment in strengthening cross-cultural understanding through a literary perspective.

Dr. Sukarjo Waluyo, M.Hum., as the Head of the Indonesian Literature Study Program at FIB Undip, supports and appreciates this activity. He also hopes that this visiting lecturer activity can motivate and improve the achievements of other Indonesian Literature Study Program students so that they can become great and make their alma mater and themselves proud.
