Undip Indonesian Literature Study Program Collaborates with UNS Lecturers in the Visiting Lecturer Event

Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences Undip held a Visiting
Lecturer event on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. This event aims to trace and discuss the traces of acculturation in classical literature and Indonesian pop culture. Therefore, the theme chosen for the Visiting Lecturer this time was “Acculturation of Pop and Classical Culture in the Development of Indonesian Literature”.

Acculturation is a prerequisite for cultural diversification in the archipelago. In its interactions, acculturation places the culture of the Archipelago always in the process of
becoming, continuously developing, and not final. Thus the process left its mark on both
classical literature and contemporary pop culture. This Visiting Lecturer event invited Dr. Dwi Susanto, M. Hum. as a lecturer at Sebelas Maret University to be the speaker. Apart from inviting external lecturers, this event was attended by Undip Indonesian Literature Study Program lecturers, namely Drs. Moh. Muzakka, M. Hum. to be the speaker, and Herpin Nopiandi Khurosan, SS, MA to be the moderator.

Dr. Dwi Susanto, M. Hum. presented material entitled “Materialism versus Tradition in
Chinese-Indonesian descent Literature in the 1930s”. At the beginning of the session, he
explained in advance about Chinese Peranakan literature and the social structure of the 1930s. Then he goes on to explain materialism versus tradition. “In dealing with colonial discourse and changes in the structure of society, it seems that the political orientation of the Peranakan does not have a significant impact on determining the construction of their culture or identity,” was the closing sentence delivered by Dr. Dwi Susanto, M. Hum.
Meanwhile Drs. Moh. Muzakka, M. Hum. presented material entitled “Acculturation of
Classical Culture in the Development of Indonesian Literature”. This session explains the meaning of acculturation of classical culture, examples of acculturation of classical culture in general, examples of acculturation of classical culture in literature, the relationship between classical culture and modern Indonesian literature, the use of traditional motifs and themes in modern literature, and how traditional culture or traditional cultural conflicts emerge in modern human experience.
