Semarang — The Indonesian Literature Program, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro, hosted a Visiting Professor lecture on “The Politics of the Body and the Body Politic in Indonesian Literature” on Thursday, September 4, 2025. The event was supported by the World Class University (WCU) program of Undip and ran for two hours, including a 30-minute interactive Q&A session.

The session was opened by Laura Andri R.M, M.A. as the representative of the Indonesian Literature Program. The discussion was moderated by Marta Widyawati, M.Hum., while the main speaker was Sony Karsono, Ph.D. from Hankuk University.

In his presentation, Sony Karsono Ph.D., highlighted how the body, both in literary discourse and in social reality, is not merely a biological entity but also a political arena where power, norms, resistance, and identity intersect. He elaborated on how Indonesian literature is portrayed based on his experience as a literary researcher and writer.

The event was attended by lecturers, students, literary practitioners, and cultural observers. The Q&A session engaged participants in discussions on the political implications of the body in contemporary literary production, its relation to gender identity, and the role of academic institutions in fostering critical perspectives on bodily representation.

This Visiting Professor program reflects the commitment of the Indonesian Literature Program at Universitas Diponegoro to encourage critical and contextual academic discourse. With the support of the WCU program, the department hopes to continue organizing such events to enrich the understanding of literature as a cultural practice deeply connected to social, political, and bodily realities.
