Emka Theater participated in the Semarang Theater Festival, which was held for the first time at the Raden Saleh Cultural Park on Sunday, October 26, 2025. The event featured various theater groups, including Emka Theater, Sukma Theater, Lanang Wadon Theater, Taring Theater, Gemati Theater, and Semarang Mari Berkarya Theater.
During the festival, Emka Theater presented a performance titled “A Piece of Chair to Share,” directed by Damar Hisam, a 2022 Indonesian Literature student. The performance depicted social conditions rife with political issues, injustice, and the lives of the underprivileged.
The story focuses on the characters Kang Gopek, Copet, Pulung, and Badut, a group of vagrants who used to live in the Gelandangan village after being taken in by Kang Jago, the village leader who has since passed away. The four then fought over the position of village chief of Gelandangan. According to the village tradition, the power struggle was carried out with sharp weapons. The conflict ends tragically when Kang Gopek kills his three companions.
Through this performance, Teater Emka won five awards, namely first place in the festival, best actress, best scriptwriter, best lighting designer, and best costume designer.
Dr. Sukarjo Waluyo, S.S., M.Hum., as the Head of the Indonesian Literature Study Program at FIB Undip, expressed his appreciation and congratulations to Emka Theater. He hopes that this will inspire other students to actively participate in various activities in other Indonesian Literature Study Programs.
